Austrian Christmas Cookies: Vanillekipferl
Ingredients
350 g of flour
210 g of butter
110 g of vanilla sugar
110 g of grated almonds
2 yolks
more icing sugar with vanilla
What Vanillekipferl are
Another Christmas classic based on a dough similar to the Mürbteig or the dough used for pies in the US or Great Britian. It comes with a fine taste of butter and vanilla, and a good Kipferl (shaped like a sickle) is sensitive to touch and crumbles instantly in your mouth.
How to prepare Vanillekipferl
Mix flour, butter, sugar, grated almonds and yolks on a board and make a smooth, crumbly dough. Form small "Kipferl" from this (try to make them at most 3 centimetres long, they will grow in the oven; a "Kipferl" is the shape of a sickle) and bake them in a pre-heated oven at 175 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Put icing sugar on them as long as they are still hot.
